THE GRID

AGI: The Valley is a retro tile-based MMORPG where alien goats invade the Bay Area — a 128×128 world stretching from the Marin Headlands across the Golden Gate to San Francisco, and down the peninsula past Stanford to the Infinite Loop. Every goat spawns at the Mission District crossroads. Progress — XP, gear, backpack and bank vault — persists to your account. Browse the full world on the WORLD MAP.

CONTROLS

  • Left click — walk to a tile, attack an NPC, chop a tree, take loot, or open the bank.
  • Right click — the classic “Choose option” menu: Attack, Chop down, Take, Bank, Examine, Walk here.
  • Camera — arrow keys or A/D rotate, mouse wheel or W/S zoom, middle-drag orbits. The camera circles your goat.
  • Enter — focus the chat bar; your words appear over your head, RSC-style.

SKILLS

All skills share the classic experience curve — level 99 takes 13,034,431 XP. Your combat level is ⌊0.25·(Defence + Hits) + 0.325·(Attack + Strength)⌋; a fresh goat is combat level 3. See who's on top of every skill on the Valley Hiscores.

COMBAT SKILLS

  • Attack — accuracy. Trained on the Accurate style.
  • Strength — max hit. Trained on the Aggressive style.
  • Defence — dodge chance. Trained on the Defensive style.
  • Hitpoints — your health pool. Trained passively by dealing damage.

Each point of damage grants 4 XP to the chosen style's skill, plus Hitpoints XP when the engagement ends. Out of combat you regenerate 1 HP every 9 seconds.

GATHERING & ARTISAN SKILLS

  • Woodcutting — chop the Bay's trees for logs with an axe. See Woodcutting.
  • Firemaking — burn logs with a tinderbox. See Firemaking.
  • Fishing — cast a rod at the Bay's ripples for raw fish. See Fishing.
  • Cooking — grill your catch on a fire into food that heals. See Cooking.

ITEMS

32 items exist in The Grid. Equipment is a loadout (it never takes backpack space); tools and resources live in your 28-slot backpack. Nothing stacks in the backpack — every log takes its own slot, like the old days. Only the bank vault merges items into stacks, so gathering runs end at a bank booth.

WOODCUTTING

Right-click a tree and Chop down with an axe in your backpack. Every game tick (600ms) rolls for a log — the odds climb with your Woodcutting level and axe power, capped between 15% and 80% per swing. Trees can collapse to a stump after a log and regrow moments later; everyone in the world sees the same stumps.

FIREMAKING

Select logs in your backpack and Light fire (tinderbox required). Fires burn on open outdoor ground only — one per tile — and burn out after 2 minutes. Everyone sees your fire; gather round.

FISHING

Rippling water marks a fishing spot — click it with a Fishing Rod in your backpack (every goat gets one) and your goat casts from the shore. Each tick rolls for a bite; better spots need higher Fishing. Raw fish take one slot each — a full net means a bank run or a cooking fire.

COOKING

Stand next to a burning fire, select a raw fish in your backpack and Cook — your goat works through the whole batch, one fish per tick. Low-level cooks burn fish (no XP, just shame); the burn odds start at 45% at the required level and fall to 5% twenty levels later. Cooked food is eaten from the backpack and works mid-combat — that's how you out-train the regen timer.

BESTIARY

14 inhabitants roam The Grid, from combat level 3 fodder to the level 69 boss. Level tags in-game are colored relative to your own combat level — pick fights your own size.

Coins is the drop range when a kill rolls loot at all — that happens 60% of the time, so the per-kill average already accounts for the dry rolls. The range scales with combat level: 0.8×CL to 3×CL. Coins land as a pile on the ground — anyone can grab it, so clear the area before you swing at a boss.

EMISSION SCHEDULE

The faucet — every NPC coin drop and shop buy-back — pays out of a published daily pool that starts huge and only ever steps down. Rates cut on each month boundary after genesis, are never re-raised, and are never cut mid-month. The valley will never pay more per day than it does in month one.

MONTHDAILY POOL (COINS = $AGI)VS LONG-TERM RATE
1 ◄ NOWup to 500,00020×
2up to 350,00014×
3up to 250,00010×

11up to 45,0001.8×
12up to 35,0001.4×
13+up to 25,0001× (the long-term rate, indefinitely)
  • Every number is a budget, not a payout — coins nobody earns simply never mint. Unclaimed budget expires at midnight EET.
  • The day's pool unlocks in hourly slices (1/24th per EET hour, unclaimed rolls forward through the day) — no one can drain the whole day at midnight while you sleep.
  • Fair-launch rule (pre-published): there is no per-account cap, and none is planned. If a single account repeatedly captures the daily pool end-to-end, a per-account limit of 25% of the day's pool may be switched on. That rule exists in writing from genesis — enabling it is enforcement, not a rewrite.
  • Genesis month pays 20× the long-term rate. Early hours are simply worth more — that's the design, and it never comes back.

MECHANICS

COMBAT

  • The attacker always lands the first hit; blows alternate every 600ms tick.
  • The opening exchange is committed — 3 hits each before anyone can retreat. Fleeing mid-commitment (or disconnecting) still eats the remaining hits.
  • One fighter per NPC — nobody can steal your kill mid-fight.
  • Wounds persist: an NPC keeps its damage when a fight ends (retreat or your death) and recovers just 1 HP every 12 seconds — hurt targets walk around with a visible health bar, ready to be finished off.

DEATH & ITEM LOSS

  • On death your entire backpack scatters at the death tile as ground loot — anyone can take it for 3 minutes before it despawns.
  • Your equipment loadout and bank vault are never lost.
  • You respawn at full health at the Mission District crossroads.

FOOD & EATING

  • Eat cooked food from the backpack to heal — even mid-combat. That's how you outlast NPCs bigger than your regen.
  • One bite per game tick (600ms) — no inhaling a whole backpack of salmon between two hits.
  • Eating never interrupts what you're doing; you can snack while training.

BANKING

  • Stand next to a Silicon Valley Bank booth to open the vault — up to 200 stacks, shared between all branches.
  • Items only stack inside the vault — the backpack holds one resource per slot, so a full gathering run is 28 slots minus your tools. Bank runs are the economy.
  • Deposit 1 / 5 / ALL of an item; walking away closes the counter.
  • The vault survives death. The backpack (28 slots) does not.

COINS

  • Valley Coins are backed 1:1 by $AGI held in an on-chain vault. Deposit and cash out at any Silicon Valley Bank booth.
  • NPCs drop them (see the bestiary above) and shops buy your goods for them. Every coin that enters the world this way is faucet emission capped by real vault backing — when the day's budget runs dry, drops stop and shopkeepers run out of cash until it refills.
  • There is no per-account daily limit. Hours invested decide earnings — grind all day and you out-earn someone who logged in for ten minutes. The only ceiling is the world's daily budget — see the emission schedule — shared by everyone, released hourly, and reset at midnight EET.
  • Accounts that have never deposited earn at 0.2× the normal rate — one real deposit lifts the throttle for good.
  • Drops are attributed to the killer at roll time, so sniping someone else's coin pile doesn't launder around their earn rate.
  • Carried coins scatter on death like any other backpack item. Bank them.

CHAT

  • Public zone chat, max 80 characters, one message per 1s — it floats over your head like the old days.
